HVDC Quality Engineer - Onshore HVDC Project - Stafford, England, UK - £Excellent Day Rate - 12 Month Contract - May Start Date - Inside IR35 - 45 Hours P/W - Hybrid Role


I’m currently supporting a leading global OEM on the delivery of a major onshore HVDC transmission project, and we’re looking to bring in an experienced Project Quality Engineer to play a key role across the full EPC lifecycle.


This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a flagship infrastructure project driving grid reinforcement and renewable energy integration.


The Role:

As Project Quality Engineer, you’ll be at the centre of quality delivery - ensuring that engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning activities meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. You’ll act as a key interface between contractors, suppliers, site teams, and project leadership, helping to embed a strong and proactive quality culture throughout.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Project Quality Plans, ITPs, and project-specific procedures in line with EPC requirements
  • Oversee QA/QC across HV equipment, converter stations, civil works, mechanical installations, and control & protection systems
  • Conduct supplier and subcontractor audits to ensure compliance with quality and contractual obligations
  • Lead NCR processes, including root cause analysis and corrective/preventative actions
  • Drive a structured Lessons Learned programme across all project phases
  • Support FATs, SATs, inspections, and commissioning activities with full documentation and traceability
  • Collaborate across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to embed quality throughout delivery
  • Monitor and report on quality KPIs, risks, and continuous improvement initiatives


Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline
  • Strong experience in quality engineering on large, complex, safety-critical projects
  • Solid understanding of EPC quality frameworks and ISO 9001 (HVDC/IEC experience beneficial)
  • Proven track record in NCR management, supplier quality, and root cause analysis
  • Ability to influence multidisciplinary teams and drive continuous improvement
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
