Role Overview: 6-12 month contract positions with extensions.
Hunter Philips has been engaged to source HVDC system engineers for our Clients transmission team, working on onshore and offshore High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) turnkey solutions.
As a System Engineer for Real-Time Simulation of HVDC Systems, you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for both wind farm grid connections and interconnectors making use of a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Manchester.
You will report to the Engineering Manager – HVDC C&P and will be required to provide engineering work packages in line with project and business objectives.
Our Client is open to contractors who have strong simulation and testing of control systems from industries outside of renewable energy, such as automotive or nuclear
- Dynamic performance studies within tender and project execution of HVDC projects
- Optimizing the dynamic behaviour of the HVDC converter (e.g., black-start and network restoration, grid forming controls, multi-terminal systems) according to customer and national grid code requirements
- Analysing sub-synchronous torsional/control interactions and the harmonic converter impedance, as well as potential interactions between the HVDC converter and other controlled devices in the power system
- Developing and validating simulation models for diverse EMT simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, EMTP-RV)
- Customer training for simulation models and presentation of study results to customer
- Continuous improvement and standardization of simulation models, study procedures and methods, processes in project execution as well as documentation of results
- Supporting the project management in technical discussions, participating in customer meetings, and coordinating external partners.
