Finance Director – Japan - Renewables
Our client is a rapidly growing Independent Power Producer (IPP) specializing in renewable energy, with a strong presence across Asia. Headquartered in Singapore, the company develops, owns, and operates solar, wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects, with an operational portfolio exceeding 200 MW. Backed by a leading global infrastructure investment firm, they are expanding their footprint and executing a 500 MW development pipeline across key Asian markets.
As part of this growth, they are seeking an experienced Finance Director – Japan to establish and lead the finance function, ensuring financial oversight, investment strategy execution, and asset management in the region.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership & Team Development
- Oversee corporate finance, accounting, and investment functions.
- Consolidate and lead finance, investment, and asset management teams.
- Build out the finance team from its current structure (one person) to 5-6 members by 2025.
Investment & Asset Management
- Lead investment analysis and asset management strategy.
- Support recruitment for the asset management team.
- Ensure financial sustainability and profitability of renewable energy assets.
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Report directly to the Singapore headquarters.
- Manage relationships with internal stakeholders across finance, investment, and corporate strategy.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including banks, investors, and regulatory bodies.
Autonomy & Decision-Making
- Operate independently, proactively making strategic financial decisions.
- Take full ownership of finance functions, aligning them with overall business objectives.
- Work closely with leadership to implement financial strategies that support company growth.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong finance background with expertise in corporate finance, investment, and asset management.
- Experience in leading or scaling finance teams.
- While renewables experience is preferred, the search prioritizes financial expertise over industry background.
- Open to candidates from related sectors with relevant financial experience.
- Investment banking candidates may be beyond the target salary range.
Language & Market Knowledge
- Fluency in English and Japanese is required.
- Strong understanding of the Japanese financial landscape and regulatory environment.
Compensation
- Base Salary: JPY 15 -18 million per year + Bonus
