My client is a leading European energy marketer continuing the expansion of its footprint across international energy markets. They are looking for a dynamic Upstream BD Manager / Sales / Originator to join their high-performing team. In this critical role, you will be the bridge between renewable electricity producers and their commercial market operations, securing the vital upstream contracts that fuel portfolio growth.

 

Your Mission: As the driving force behind their upstream acquisition, you will pinpoint, approach, and close deals with independent power producers (IPPs) and utility-scale renewable asset owners. Your success in securing generation capacity directly enables their regional market operations and energy optimization strategies.

 

The Scope of the Role You will serve as the primary commercial point of contact for independent power producers (IPPs) and utility-scale asset owners across Germany.

  • Portfolio Growth: Proactively identify and engage wind, solar, and other renewable electricity producers to secure upstream power supply contracts.
  • Negotiation & Structuring: Lead end-to-end commercial negotiations & structuring of sophisticated agreements.
  • Market Alignment: Work closely with the commercial and risk teams to ensure acquired volumes align seamlessly with portfolio strategies and market risk appetite.
  • Product Creation: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to create and sell innovative products to the market.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain long-term, high-trust relationships with asset owners, developers, and operators across the renewable sector.
  • Market Presence: Act as a trusted partner to asset owners, leveraging your industry expertise to position the business as the counterparty of choice.

 

Your Profile

  • Proven success within upstream direct sales in the German energy market.
  • Exceptional networking and communication skills with a relentless drive to secure contracts and close deals.
  • Strong capability to negotiate & close contracts.
  • Business fluency in German and English is required to effectively negotiate in the local market.

The business is growing internationally and offers the opportunity to work closely with procurement, project delivery, transactions and senior leadership on major renewable energy projects THE ROLE The business is seeking a Senior Legal Executive with strong experience across renewable energy, turbine procurement and complex commercial contracts. This is a highly commercial position, taking ownership of the legal aspects of major turbine procurement processes and supporting the business through negotiation, contracting and execution. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Lead legal support across the full turbine procurement process, from initial offers through negotiation, award and execution. Negotiate turbine supply, installation, service and related commercial agreements. Advise on contractual risk, financial security, liability, warranties and commercial exposure. Support negotiations with international OEMs, suppliers and contractors. Manage contractual risks, claims, variations and potential disputes. Work closely with procurement, project, commercial and transaction teams. Support the development of contract management, templates and legal processes, including AI-enabled technology. THE PERSON Qualified lawyer with 8–10+ years' post-qualified experience. Strong background in renewable energy, utilities, infrastructure or construction. Proven turbine procurement/wind energy contracting experience highly desirable. Experience with EPC, FIDIC, supply, construction, O&M or LTSA agreements. Strong commercial negotiation and contractual risk management skills. Comfortable working directly with procurement and commercial teams. International / multi-jurisdictional experience.
