BESS Commissioning Engineer - Barstow, California, USA - $Excellent Day Rate + Expenses - 3 Month Contract + Likely Extensions - January 2027 Start - W2 Engagement Structure


We are supporting a leading global energy technology business with the appointment of multiple Commissioning Engineers / Technicians for a major BESS augmentation project in California.


The project is expected to mobilize in January 2027, with commissioning activities running until approximately April 2027.


This is an electrically focused commissioning position, with engineers responsible for hands-on commissioning, troubleshooting, fault finding and verification of electrical circuits across the BESS installation.


Key Details:

  • Location: Barstow, California, USA
  • Start Date: January 2027
  • Duration: 3 month contract
  • Working Pattern: Monday to Friday or 6 weeks on / 1 week off rotation
  • Package: $Excellent day rate + expenses
  • Engagement Structure: W2


Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical commissioning and troubleshooting activities across the BESS installation.
  • Read, interpret and work from electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Trace electrical circuits and wiring to identify and resolve faults.
  • Carry out fault finding, testing and verification of electrical systems.
  • Support commissioning activities across systems operating at approximately 1,500V DC / 1,000V AC.
  • Identify and troubleshoot wiring, installation and equipment issues during commissioning.
  • Work closely with site management, engineering and wider commissioning teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Maintain commissioning and testing documentation.
  • Support safe and efficient completion of commissioning activities in line with project requirements.


Requirements:

  • Ideally 2+ years' electrical commissioning, testing or troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong ability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Practical electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience working with LV/DC electrical systems, power generation or renewable energy equipment.
  • Previous BESS / Energy Storage commissioning experience is advantageous but NOT essential.
  • Candidates from Solar, Wind, Substations, Power Generation, Oil & Gas or other industrial electrical commissioning environments are encouraged to apply.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, site-based commissioning environment.


Project-specific BESS and system training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for experienced electrical commissioning professionals looking to move into the rapidly growing utility-scale energy storage sector.
