As Senior Planning Engineer you will provide engineering expertise and technical direction to translate complex analysis into clear recommendations that support confident decision-making.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide senior-level technical direction and act as a senior technical escalation point for complex network planning activities.
  • Lead distribution planning investigations, planning assessments, connection support material and engineering recommendations.
  • Evaluate planning solutions through detailed technical analysis, including risk assessments
  • Support major grid transformation, and customer connection initiatives by providing continuous expert planning advice and recommendations.
  • Translate technical analysis into proposed solutions, risks and recommendations for managers and stakeholders.
  • Influence internal and external stakeholders through clear, evidence-based technical advice.


What you will bring to this role

  • Strong evidence demonstrating an experienced electrical engineer with significant expertise in distribution network planning and the technical judgement to lead complex engineering investigations.
  • Strong senior-level engineering judgement, with the ability to conduct complex technical investigations, assess risk and provide solutions and recommendations.
  • Strong power system study capabilities including load flow, fault level, voltage stability and network constraint analysis using modelling platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, mentoring and peer review.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to turn complex engineering analysis into clear solutions, recommendations and highlighting risks.


Qualifications and Requirements for this role

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering ideally with a Power Systems focus or related discipline.
  • Progress toward Chartered Professional Engineer status through Engineers Australia, or equivalent professional standing, is desirable.
  • Extensive experience in electricity network planning and power systems analysis working with utilities.
  • Experience of using DigSILENT PowerFactory and similar power systems software applications.
  • Full working rights in Australia, visa sponsorship is not supported for this role

SITE MANAGER / SITE LEAD - BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE (BESS) - RENEWABLE ENERGY - GRID (CALIFORNIA, US) Location: Barstow, CaliforniaContract: Freelance / ContractDuration: Minimum 4 Months with high extension potential due to another project kicking offStart: 4 January 2027Sector: Battery Energy Storage / Power InfrastructureThe OpportunityHunter Philips is supporting a leading global energy technology business with the appointment of an experienced Site Manager / Site Lead for an upcoming Battery Energy Storage augmentation project in Barstow, California.The project involves the augmentation of an existing operational BESS facility, with approximately 50MWh of additional energy storage capacity being integrated into the site.Key Responsibilities:Lead day-to-day site activities throughout the BESS augmentation programme.Coordinate contractors, subcontractors and project stakeholders across the site.Oversee logistics, lifting activities and the movement and installation of equipment.Maintain a strong site safety culture and proactively identify and address potential risks.Monitor construction progress against the project programme and escalate potential delays.Coordinate electrical activities associated with approximately 1,500V DC / 1,000V AC systems.Support the resolution of technical and site-related issues throughout delivery.Provide clear progress updates and maintain effective communication between site and project teams.Requirements:Strong electrical construction or site delivery background.Previous experience managing contractors within power or energy infrastructure environments.BESS experience is advantageous but not essential.Candidates from substations, Solar PV, Wind, power generation or similar electrical infrastructure backgrounds will be considered.Previous safety management or Safety Officer experience is highly desirable.Ideally 5+ years of relevant industry experience, with 10+ years preferred.Contract Details:Start: 4 January 2027.Duration will be minimum 4 months, running through toe end of April 2027.Monday–Friday with potential Saturday working.Local / commutable candidates are preferred.For suitable travelling candidates, flights, accommodation and vehicle can be covered separately.Rotational arrangements may potentially be considered for travelling candidates.If you are interested in discussing the opportunity, please apply with your CV or contact me directly at roman.floyd@hunterphilips.com.Interviews are expected to begin next week (week commencing 07.10.26).
