This is a very rare opportunity to join a company and be part of the continued growth plans for Renewable Energy Projects across Malaysia. This highly impressive organisation is owned by a reputable Asset Management company, who develop, finance, own and operate a wide portfolio of onshore renewables and storage assets across the Asia Pacific region.


Reporting through to the CIO/COO, your key remit will be to help identify, develop and secure key project opportunities and investment with a focus on photovoltaic and energy storage projects.


Absolute key to your success will be your deep understanding of the Malaysian landscape and very strong evidence of working experience in a similar role where development opportunities have been successfully identified and executed across the renewable energy sector.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and delivering strategic development objectives of renewable energy and energy storage projects in Malaysia
  • Continuously identifying asset opportunities to expand the existing renewable energy project portfolio in Malaysia
  • Working closely with local landowners, developers and development partners and forming strong relationships to secure opportunities
  • Project development and M&A for greenfield, brownfield and late-stage projects
  • Assessment, feasibility, and due diligence of project opportunities from a land, development, permitting, regulatory, stakeholder and grid connection perspective
  • Leading commercial negotiations and contract discussions including land purchase or lease agreements, joined development or development service agreements
  • Working closely with the central investment team and energy offtake experts to secure energy offtake and project financing plus legal, engineering, finance, supply chain and other departments to progress the projects.
  • Preparation of project specific elements of internal approval papers for presentation to management, Board and Investment committees
  • Lead participation in tenders, bids, pre-qualification documentation and provide methodology, resources and cost estimates/financial models to ensure success
  • Actively manage all external and internal stakeholder relationships

About You

  • Degree or post graduate qualification in Business Admin, Engineering, Science, Project Management or similar technical qualification
  • Solid working experience with a proven track record (10 years plus) in a similar role within Malaysia with an established network of the local market
  • Proven experience in leading business development opportunities, developing and securing successful investment of multiple energy projects preferably in solar, battery storage or other renewable energy projects
  • Strong evidence and a solid network to support your ability to secure land agreements with landowners, local developers, government agencies or EPC/Construction providers in Malaysia
  • Ability to manage regulatory, permitting and technical discussions with permitting, regulatory and legal bodies including government agencies as well as managing input requirements across functions such as engineering, procurement, legal and finance
  • Skilled in navigating and building strong relationships with governments, power utilities, energy regulators, local communities and partners
  • Strong commercial acumen and strategic development ability
  • Hands-on, you must be willing to ‘roll up your sleeves’ and adaptable as required
  • High-impact role suited to someone who’s not just strategic and commercially minded but also versatile, innovative and has the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Experience of working with a funded asset management organisation will be highly regarded
  • Genuine passion for clean energy projects and supporting the transition to net zero
  • Full working rights in Malaysia
  • Bahasa Malay native speaking and fluent in English with excellent written and conversational skills
