Lead Electrical Engineer – Power Generation – Major Overhaul Programme – Co. Wicklow – Contract Position (to Dec 2027)


A leading energy organisation is preparing for a major multi-year overhaul of a key hydro power facility in Ireland. This programme includes full machine inspections, generator and transformer refurbishment, C&I upgrades and an extensive balance of plant scope.


They are now seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join the project team on site and take responsibility for the delivery of all electrical elements of the overhaul. This role requires a strong background in power-generation maintenance, contractor management and heavy electrical plant.


Role Overview:

The Lead Electrical Engineer will support the Project Manager in planning and delivering a complex, high-risk maintenance programme involving generator rotor pulls, transformer upgrades, switchgear inspections, electrical testing and significant balance of plant work.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all electrical activities associated with the overhaul programme, ensuring compliance with statutory safety, health and environmental requirements.
  • Manage EPC electrical contracts and additional electrical work scopes as assigned.
  • Liaise with internal engineering teams to ensure technical protocols, standards and procedures are correctly followed.
  • Develop and support the implementation of Inspection & Test Plans for electrical work packages.
  • Oversee quality performance in line with the Project Quality Plan, including review of ITPs and protocol sheets.
  • Act as day-to-day site lead for electrical contractors, supervising works and ensuring adherence to programme and safety expectations.
  • Conduct regular electrical safety, environmental and quality audits.
  • Support site management and maintenance teams throughout the project.
  • Report progress against schedule and participate in project meetings.
  • Assist with cost control for assigned contracts and electrical plant scopes.
  • Attend FATs, workshops and technical inspections as required.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the power-generation industry.
  • Strong knowledge of generators, transformers, HV/MV/LV switchgear and associated electrical plant.
  • Proven experience planning and delivering major plant outages or overhauls.
  • Demonstrated capability managing contractors and overseeing EPC electrical works.
  • Excellent communication, documentation and reporting skills.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental compliance.

Contract Details:

  • Location: Co. Wicklow (full-time site presence required).
  • Start: ASAP, can wait for the right candidate
  • Duration: Long term contract, expected to run to December 2027
  • Expenses: Business-related travel (not routine commuting) reimbursed subject to prior approval.
