What inspires you about working in renewable energy recruitment?
What gets me out of bed is the sense of real purpose. We’re not just placing people into jobs. We’re putting the right minds into the infrastructure that will power economies and decarbonise industry. There’s a clear line between the talent we deliver and turbines turning, electrons flowing, hydrogen plants coming online. Some industries talk about purpose. Ours actually has one. I also enjoy the challenge. Renewables is a sector where the demand for capability often outstrips supply. It forces you to think creatively, network hard, and genuinely understand the technical and commercial nuances. Put bluntly: lazy recruiters don’t survive here.
The renewable sector moves fast — how do you and your team stay ahead?
We operate in micro-niches, so our consultants sit inside their patch: talking to specialists daily, attending technical events, and keeping close to the engineering and policy shifts that actually determine where projects get built and who’s needed to build them. We treat the market like a living system. Pipeline intelligence, investment cycles, grid constraints, permitting bottlenecks, supply chain inflection points. When you know what’s coming, talent strategy stops being reactive and we can get ahead of the curve to serve our clients. And frankly, we invest in relationships before we need them. The best candidates in this sector aren’t applying to job boards. They’re already busy. We earn their trust long before a brief lands so we can react quicker than our competition.
A moment that made you proud to be part of Hunter Philips?
There are many that come to mind but placing our first contractor, our tenth, our fiftieth and then our hundredth are all milestones that make me proud of where we’ve come from. To go from an unknown entity to being globally recognised as one of the most reliable suppliers of talent for critical hires in construction, grid, commissioning, and high-voltage specialists, is something I’m extremely proud of.
