What is it about working in renewable energy recruitment that really inspires you?
After working in the renewables recruitment sector for over 20 years now, the major thing that I have found inspiring is how it has transformed through growth and investment and how the energy transition idea has become a reality and a global ‘mission’. I am also inspired by the people I have met, from business leaders to highly skilled candidates, some of which having entered the market have gone on to achieve incredible careers. It has been truly inspiring being part of their journey in many cases, including helping to build their businesses and finding them the right home for their careers to flourish.
The renewable sector moves fast — how do you and your team stay ahead of the curve when it comes to finding top talent?
Quite simply building long-standing relationships is the best way of staying ahead of the curve in finding top talent. One of the reasons for our consistent presence at conferences is to achieve vital face time with new and existing clients and candidates. The vast majority of the best talent is ‘passive’ meaning they aren’t actively looking but would be interested in the right opportunity so it is imperative to understand their aspirations and motivations. Building relationships and developing this understanding over time is crucial in matching the right talent to the right opportunities, as well as providing essential recommendations.
Can you share a moment or success story that made you especially proud to be part of Hunter Philips?
Probably the bast example I can think of is helping to build Iberdrola’s Onshore team in Germany. Initially meeting them at Intersolar Munich in 2022 and understanding their plan and ‘value proposition’ was key to hiring the right senior team initially, starting with an MD and 4 regional heads. This paved the way for subsequent hires in development and then EPC. Seeing them now successfully developing and constructing projects and the formidable team they have become is a really proud thing for Hunter Philips to be part of.
