400kV Protection Commissioning Engineer – Immingham – Contract – Outside IR35 - 3 month initial contract

I am currently recruiting for an experienced 400kV Protection Commissioning Engineer to support a major power generation project in Immingham.


This is a hands on commissioning role focused on protection systems testing, fault finding and final stage commissioning activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out testing and commissioning activities personally rather than supervising third-party specialists.


This is a critical position within the project team and will play a key role in ensuring commissioning activities are completed safely and on schedule.


Requirements

  • Proven experience commissioning protection systems within HV substations.
  • Strong knowledge of protection relays, CTs and VTs.
  • Fully competent carrying out Primary and Secondary Injection testing.
  • Experience testing and commissioning IEC 61850 communication systems.
  • Ability to perform fault finding and troubleshooting on protection schemes.
  • Previous experience working on National Grid connected projects.
  • National Grid Substation Person authorisation highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of testing activities.

Resposnbilites:

  • Carry out hands-on protection commissioning activities across HV systems.
  • Complete protection relay testing, configuration and fault finding.
  • Undertake Primary and Secondary Injection testing.
  • Execute final-stage commissioning and system validation activities.
  • Perform IEC 61850 communications testing and verification.
  • Support End-to-End testing activities.
  • Review and complete commissioning documentation and test records.
  • Identify and resolve commissioning defects and punch list items.
  • Liaise with site teams to ensure successful energisation and project delivery.
  • Support project close-out and final handover activities.

Work pattern:

  • Monday to Friday.
  • 10 hour days
  • Weekend working may be required during critical commissioning phases.
  • Flexible working arrangements during testing activities.

Contract details:

  • Initial 2–3 month contract.
  • Potential extension depending on project requirements.
  • Outside IR35.
  • ASAP start.
  • PPE and testing equipment provided.
