Tunnelling Specialist - Geotechnical Engineering - HV Grid Infrastructure - Dublin (Hybrid) - 24 Month Contract
A leading Irish utility is seeking an experienced Tunnelling Specialist to support early-stage technical engagement on major underground infrastructure associated with future high-voltage network development.
Working within a central Engineering and Major Projects function, this role will provide specialist tunnelling and geotechnical expertise during the pre-development and early engagement phase of a significant pipeline of grid infrastructure works. The successful candidate will play a key role in reviewing feasibility submissions, challenging methodologies, and helping the organisation prepare for its first large-scale tunnelling programme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interrogate tunnelling feasibility reports, methodologies and programme assumptions
- Provide robust technical feedback on constructability and delivery approach
- Review and challenge third-party tunnelling proposals and documentation
- Coordinate multidisciplinary input across engineering, delivery and geotechnical teams
- Identify risks, constraints and information gaps within early-stage submissions
- Assess potential impacts on existing and future HV infrastructure
- Support organisational readiness for major tunnelling delivery
- Prepare clear technical reports and internal briefings
Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive experience in tunnelling and/or geotechnical engineering
- Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics and ground behaviour
- Deep knowledge of modern tunnelling techniques (TBM, cut-and-cover, microtunnelling)
- Experience with dewatering, grouting and waterproofing in complex ground condition
- Proven ability to review and challenge third-party technical submissions
- Minimum 10 years’ experience on major infrastructure or utilities projects
- Chartered Engineer (or equivalent internationally recognised status)
- Degree-qualified in Engineering (Level 8 or equivalent)
- Strong stakeholder coordination and communication skills
Contract Details:
- 24-month contract
- Start: Q2 2026
- Location: Dublin (hybrid – 2 days onsite)
- Working hours: Monday-Friday, standard business hours
- Long-term programme visibility
