Hunter Philips Executive Search is partnering with a leading global OEM in the energy sector to recruit a Lead HVDC Engineer. The Opportunity

As the Lead HVDC Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and overall accountability for Plant and Civil engineering activities across large-scale HVDC converter stations and offshore energy infrastructure projects. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will drive strategic technical decisions, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, efficient, reliable, and aligned with project objectives.

You will collaborate closely with engineering teams, project managers, interface managers, customers, suppliers, and contractors to coordinate engineering deliverables from tender through project execution. This is a highly visible leadership position, combining technical expertise with stakeholder management to successfully deliver complex, high-value infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams, promoting collaboration and engineering excellence throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead the development and delivery of Plant and Civil engineering solutions for large-scale HVDC transmission and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface for customers, partners, contractors, and internal stakeholders on all HVDC Plant Engineering matters.
  • Coordinate engineering activities across equipment layouts, auxiliary electrical systems, civil and structural engineering, and associated plant infrastructure to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Interpret customer specifications, industry standards, and project requirements to develop practical, compliant, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Work closely with project managers, discipline leads, and interface managers to ensure engineering deliverables are completed on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Support construction, installation, testing, and commissioning teams by providing technical guidance and resolving engineering challenges.
  • Lead technical risk management activities, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and engineering governance processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement, standardisation, and knowledge sharing across engineering teams.

About You

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on large-scale power, transmission, renewable energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience within HVDC, substations, high-voltage transmission, offshore wind, power systems, or other complex electrical infrastructure environments would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong technical understanding of HVDC plant engineering, system integration, electrical infrastructure, and multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Confident interpreting technical specifications, managing engineering risk, and making informed technical decisions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build strong relationships across international project teams.
  • Comfortable working within fast-paced project environments, balancing technical quality, programme requirements, and commercial objectives.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Additional languages would be beneficial.
