PROJECT MANAGER – HIGH VOLTAGE SUBSTATION ASSET REPLACEMENT – UK POWER NETWORKS


Location: Yorkshire

Contract: 12 months

The Opportunity

I’m partnering with a business delivering high-voltage electrical infrastructure projects to appoint an experienced Project Manager to lead substation asset replacement works.

You will take ownership of projects from design and procurement through construction, testing and commissioning, coordinating the teams, resources and contractors needed to deliver safely, on time and within budget.

This opportunity would suit a Project Manager with a strong understanding of HV networks who enjoys combining technical project delivery with team leadership, client engagement and commercial responsibility. Experience working within the Northern Powergrid operating area would be advantageous.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and delivery of HV substation asset replacement projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, safety standards and client requirements.
  • Develop and manage project programmes, budgets, resource plans and risk registers.
  • Act as the main point of contact for clients, contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating resources to maintain productivity and delivery performance.
  • Oversee design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Monitor project finances, including forecasting, cost control and reporting.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, CDM Regulations and applicable UK utility and transmission requirements.
  • Provide regular progress reports and project reviews to clients and senior management.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience managing high-voltage electrical projects, ideally involving substations and asset replacement.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HV networks and experience delivering complex engineering projects.
  • HNC/HND in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience managing multiple projects while maintaining safety, quality, budget and programme requirements.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Understanding of UK utility and transmission standards, ideally with experience in the Northern Powergrid operating area.
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and their application to project delivery.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, project schedules, cost reports and risk registers.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
